Wednesday June 28th 1916

Fair, hot day. Ed Cottet's girl brought a note from Bisbo's for some of the girls to go and pick berries. Mora, Maud and Memphis went. Sidney and I hoe'd some corn. Susie came for me to go home with her. I went and took the 3 little ones. Sidney rode down as far as Bisbo's to help them pick berries p.m. When we got on the Pinnacle, M. Silverman was there. He ate dinner there. They traded about $10.00 with him. James bought me a nice gingham dress for $1.50. Susie gave me cloth enough for Paul. 2 dresses, steele grey percale.

Tuesday June 27th 1916

Hot, muggy a.m., showery p.m. Mora and Maud rode over to Cassy's with Mrs. Dillenbeck and from there, walked over to Cottet's, to get Mora's clothes.

Monday June 26th 1916

Fair warm day. I washed and helped hoe corn. Sidney was sick all night and the a.m. Sent by H. Munger to Parish for flour and meal.

Sunday June 25th 1916

Fair. Sidney, Mora and Maud went to church, a.m., all gone again eve. and Memphis also. Mr. Webb drove down p.m., the Polish man next door came p.m.  Sidney let him have our mail box for $1.25. Memphis went down there and got 1 qt. of milk tonight.

Saturday June 24th 1916

Fair. We planted all the beans we had left. Had a thunder shower eve.  Sidney went to the next house and borrowed a pail of flour.

Friday June 23rd 1916

Lovely all day. Sidney, Mora and I hoed and planted some beans. Sent a seed order to Salger. Paul is better, Cassy sick, a.m.

Thursday June 22nd, 1916

First nice day in sometime. Sidney, Mora hoed potatoes and beans. I found {unknown, page ripped} in a hole back of hen house. Rec'd a card form Mina. Sidney gone after the rest of his {unknown, page ripped}, he left them in woods above Geo. Munger's. Went to Mr. Smiths, a.m. I sold 6 eggs, got 3 lbs grahm off of Mr. Wilson, a.m. .22c for eggs.  Paul is sick.

Wednesday June 21st 1916

We hoed some but it is awful wet.  I made a strawberry shortcake. Sidney rec'd a birthday card from Hannah.

Tuesday June 20th 1916

Cold. Sidney hoed corn, but it is very wet. We had a strawberry pie. Sidney went over to Fred Cary's, eat supper with him. Gave him *pieplant for 1 qrt and 1 pint can. Patsy went away.

Monday June 19th 1916

Showery a.m., fairly pour'd p.m.  Sidney got Kent's horse to cultivate. Rain'd so he only went through 4 rows. He went to Wm. Monroe's, p.m.  Mr. Sypher gave him a bag of seed potatoes. Put turkey setting on eight eggs.

Sunday June 18th 1916

Hard showers, p.m., fair a.m.  Sidney and 4 girls went to Sunday school. Girls went early to practice. Sidney and Memphis rode with Mr. Johnson got wet, rained hard. Other 3 came earlier. all gone to entertainment but Paul. They got home about 10, all had a good time.

Saturday June 17th 1916

Showery. Sidney's birthday, 44 years old. Went to Besonson's , got a lot of groceries. Bell Allen came, borrowed yeast cakes. Lillian went with the girls to practice. p.m. Mora came home from Cottet's p.m. Maud went to next house, got 1 qrt. milk. We had strawberry shortcake.

Friday June 16th 1916

Very rainy. Sidney came at 5 p.m. He brought home 6 pair shoes and slippers, 8 loaves of bread. Aunt Adaliine has visited at Geo. Mustiger's, he said she is looking good.

Thursday June 15th 1916

8 ducks hatched. I dead in shell. Fair a.m., rainy cold p.m.  Children got pretty wet coming home from school. Lettie let them take some coats. Cassy went p.m., she went to Bisbo's a.m. to meet the mail as I expected a letter from Sidney, but none came however.

Wednesday June 14th 1916

Warm. Maud and Memphis went and took exam orations. Memphis took a note to H. Munger's for Gail. Mora sent me a note. I sent a letter to Sidney. Planted some more beans on the hill. Maud took Maud Cronin some petunia seed. Duck eggs picking.

Tuesday June 13th 1916

Fair. Children went to school. I rec'd a card from Sidney. Memphis and I planted cucumbers and some beans. I caught a monster of a woodchuck in the trap.

Monday June 12th 1916

Nice day. 3 girls went to school to practice. Sidney started for Fulton about 9 a.m. Children got home after 5 tonight, practiced all day. Mora sent a note home by Maud. I kept the turkey shut up and she layed in the hens nest, one hen layed also.

Sunday June 11th 1916

Rainy a.m., p.m., fair eve. Evening cloudy. Mora came home at noon. Went back at 7 p.m. acrost. Sidney, Maud and Memphis went down to hold a meeting but so few came they decided to wait. Pa and James drove up p.m., staid to supper. They brought a pail of buttermilk.

Saturday June 10th 1916

Pleasant a.m., rainy part of p.m.  Sidney went to store and feed store. Got a ride both ways, part way. We got our first hens egg today.

Friday June 9th 1916

Mora came a.m., went back at 4 p.m.  Mrs. Russel and the girls came p.m.  Sidney came on the 4 p.m., walked home from the Square. he brought 2 can red cross, 2# crackers and 6# rice from Fulton. An auto party stopped to inquire for Roy Johnson.

Thursday June 8th 1916

Rainy, nearly all day. Stopped a little before dark, cold wind. Rec'd a card from Sidney, he is in Fulton. Watkins man came a.m. I got $1.90 worth off him. Hot drops, $1.00,  louse powder .25c, vanilla .40c, and mustard .25 cents.

Wednesday June 7th 1916

Maud and Memphis went over to Elmer Cottet's, got 6 ears of black popcorn a.m.  We planted it and then finished out with field corn tared it all, just finished as it commenced to rain. The 3 girls and I all worked hard to finish. I picked ripe strawberries.

Tuesday June 6th 1916

Mr. Richard Fieldind died. Warm fair day. Sidney started for Fulton about 9 a.m., he wasn't feeling well and I have been worried all day. Hard to keep at work. The children and I finished planting our sweet corn and planted all the popcorn. Also sowed some turnip seed this eve. I rec'd a nice long letter from Aunt Adaline Raymond.

Monday June 5th 1916

Good day, rained hard in the night and early morning. Mora went to Elmer's between 6-7 a.m.  Maud went with her and came home. Mora sent me a new apron by Maud. Sidney staid with James so not to be so tired. Went from there to store got 20# meal and 1 red cross. Rode up with Arthur Getman, Henry Holden came, he has an auto now. Sidney and I planted some more potatoes and some sweet corn and squash.

Sunday June 4th 1916

Warm lovely day. Sidney went to Dutch Hill p.m. and to the school house eve. From there is going over on the Pinnacle. Mora came home after meeting at noon. Other three went and rode down and back with Mr. Johnson. Mr. Webb drove down here p.m., also Mr. Cary came a little while p.m., he is looking very poorly.

Saturday June 3rd 1916

Cloudy a.m., hard rain p.m. Sidney went to Roscoe Bisbo's before they were up this a.m.  Ross let him have 1 bu. seed potatoes. Our turkey laid her first egg this morning. Sidney got a big fat woodchuck in his trap a.m.

Friday June 2nd 1916

Warm, wind blew hard, p.m.  Thunder showers 7:30, very hard. Maud and Memphis went to school. Sidney and I planted corn and some beans. I set a few tomatoes plants, eve.

Thursday June 1st, 1916

Fair, warm today. Quite a hard frost this morning, quite a few things were black on the low land. Our early potatoes that were up got niped. Maud and Cassy went to school. Memphis took care of Paul so I could help plant corn. Memphis and Maud covered like little nailers after 4. Sidney carried manure in 2 pails and dropped it all in the hill. Lafayette Mead came here at noon, eat dinner and started for Potter's. Mr. Wm. Johnson called this eve, on his way to prayer meeting. Sidney, Maud and Memphis went to Roscoe Bisbo's, got some groceries off Glen Davy. Got some dandy molasses for .40c/gallon.

Wednesday May 31st 1916

Fair, cold high wind. Sidney and I planted corn. Maud and Memphis went to school. Cassy looked after Paul. I sent a letter to Aunt Adaline Raymond, her birthday 85 years old.

Tuesday May 30th 1916

Showery. Sidney and I planted best we could between showers. Memphis and Cassy went to school (kept school to make up a lost day) Maud staid home to look after the babie's.

Monday May 29th 1916

Hot. Sidney went to N. Constantia and then to Constantia. Got oats, meal, 1# tea and a can of milk. He was awfully tired when he reached home. Maud, Memphis and Cassy went to school. Mora went to Elmer's about 4: 30 p.m.  James, Susie and the baby came at 5 p.m., had been to Mallory, Little France and then here. I dug 12 rows of holes to plant corn.

Sunday May 28th 1916

Warm, rather muggy. Sidney and the three girls went to church. Mora went with Cottet's , rode home with Mrs. Siegert, other 3 rode with mr. Johnson. Blanch Cottet gave Mora 3 nice pink roses for her hat. Sidney, Mora and Maud have gone to church this eve., had a good crowd tonight.

Saturday May 27th 1916

Rained some a.m.  Sidney worked at Kent's, went to Fred Hess's p.m., got some potatoes and planted them, about 1/2 bu.  Maud carried Mora's things over to Elmer's for her a.m.

Friday May 26th 1916

Fair. Sidney worked for Frank Kent all day. Maud went to school. Mora came home at noon, went acrost at 4:30 p.m.

Thursday May 25th 1916

Warm bright day. Sidney and I planted potatoes a.m. and I and the children p.m.  Sidney worked for Frank Kent p.m., this eve. He and Maud have gone to prayer meeting at Claud Bryant's. Memphis and Cassy went to school but the teacher was gone away, so there was no school. Memphis cut her foot on a nail. I got 10# meal off of Wilson, also groceries off of Davy.  1/2c for sugar and 15c for compound. Maud took the turkey to Bell's and went and brought her home tonight.

Wednesday May 24th 1916

Fair. Sidney worked shingling at Fielding's for H. Munger. Got home at 4 p.m.  Maud and Memphis went to school, rode home with Claud Bisbo. Bell Allen spent p.m. here. James and Susie drove up this eve. brought sour milk and a picture and some butter in a pint can.

Tuesday May 23rd 1916

Rainy a.m., good p.m.  Sidney went to Little France a.m., built fence for H. Russel p.m.  Herbert Munger called to get Sidney to help him shingle tomorrow. Mora started acrost for Cottet's at 4:30 p.m.  I planted the yard. Sidney spaded up today, it is succotash in earnest.

Monday May 22nd 1916

A light, drisly rain. Rained hard tonight. Mora staid home, other 3 went to school. {page torn, unreadable} and Chas. Runga came at 9 a.m., finished digging and went home at 4 p.m., brought his corn and potatoes.

Sunday May 21st 1916

Fair. Sidney and 3 girls went to church p.m., Sidney went to Dutch Hill, ate supper with Jess Alger, came home, and he, Mora and Maud gone to meeting, eve. Mora came home from church at 9:30, a.m. Blanch gave her a pr. shoes and $1.00 for helping her. We caught a woodchuck, it was fine.

Saturday May 20th 1916

Cool. James and Mable drove over a.m. and brought Maud and Memphis home. Brought some milk and a can of maple syrup, quart. Maud and Cassy went over to Elmer Cottet's with the Russel girls to get vinegar. Mrs. Russel and the girls here, a.m.

Friday May 19th 1916

Bright, beautiful day, between 4 and 5, thunder shower, then clear. 3 girls went to school, a.m. Maud and Memphis rode over on the Pinnacle with Pete Dupra at 6:30 p.m. I got 10# meal, 5 graham and 2 thread off of Mr. Wilson, a.m.. Hazel Kent gave Maud a pr. of shoes she had outgrown. I did a good big washing.

Very rainy and cold. Sidney caught a woodchuck, we had it roasted for supper, very good too.

Wednesday May 17th 1916

Rainy. Sidney rode with Arthur Getman to Geo. Mungers, brought home 1 bu potatoes, gone to Harry Hubbards this eve. Mr. Russel came to see our mailbox.

Tuesday May 16th 1916

Rainy a.m. generally cloudy p.m. 3 girls went to school, teacher sick so they came home and gone fishing, p.m.  Memphis got a sucker. Got a bag of clothes at Cassy's to make over.

Monday May 15th 1916

Rainy, thunder showers all night. Children went to school except Mora. She went to Elmer Cottet's at 5 p.m.. Other children went to Cassy Potters after school, she gave our Cassy a nice little new hat. Mora and Lillian went to Johnson's to get a little sour milk. Mrs.J. gave them cookies. Pa's birthday. Mrs. Russel came for flowers. Put Maud's duck setting.

Sunday May 14th 1916

Fair. Mora came home at 10 a.m. Blanch gave her a pair of rompers for Paul, that her little Rose had outgrown. Sidney, Maud, Memphis and Cassy went to church a.m. Sidney, Maud, and Mora have gone this evening. Mr. Webb came p.m. to see Sidney about draging.

Saturday May 13th 1916

Fair, cool day. I have had a sever headache all p.m. Russel girls here to play, a.m. A very lonesome day for me. Mora did not come home tonight. Sidney reached home at 10 p.m., very tired. Had a poor week.

Friday May 12th 1916

Cool. Children went to school. Mora did not come this way tonight. Her pet woodchuck got out of his box and broke all the plants to pieces on the window and machine.

Thursday May 11th 1916

Cool, high wind. Children went to school. Mora came home and went acrost to {page ripped, unreadable} tonight Maud and Memphis got {page ripped, unreadable} uncle Billy's this eve to prayer meeting. Mora went with Cottetts folks to social at Roscoe Bisbo's last night. I sent a letter to sidney, got 1/2 sack bread flour off Mr. Wilson, also can of red cross milk, paid 3 cents a can. Mrs Kent gave Memphis some dahlia and gladiola bulbs tonight.

Wednesday May 10th 1916

Rainy. Lillian fell down stairs this morning, hurt her head. Nose bled awfully. Feverish all day and drowsy, slept most of the day. Children went to school. Mora did not come this way tonight.

Tuesday May 9th, 1916

Fair, quite cool. Children went to school. Mora came home and got some clothes and went over to stay with Blanch Cottett. Hazel Williams has another baby girl.

Monday May 8th, 1916

Had a good shower a.m., thunder shower p.m.. Sidney went to West Monroe a.m., got corn,  and Maud went to take the milk train, p.m., for Fulton. Children went to school, Mora came home at noon, called on Mrs. Siegert this eve.

Sunday May 7th, 1916

Beautiful warm day. Mora came home from Elmer's, a.m. Sidney preached at the school house at 11, Dutch Hill at 2 p.m., and at Gayville, eve. Maud went to S.S, rode home with uncle Billy. Sidney did too, James, Susie and the baby came up, eve., brought a mess of carp and a lot of fish egg's, some cream and sour milk. Milk got all spilt out but, just a little. Brought some *compounded in a pint can for fear I did not have any to fry the fish. Sidney got home from Gayville at 10 p.m.,  collection 80 cents.
