Quite cool, rainy. Sidney went to work on the road loading stone, worked until 2:30 p.m. rained hard, he came home.

Sunday October 8th 1916
Warm, bright and beautiful. Mora and Samantha came at 11 a.m. Vera got Mora some clothes she had outgrown. 4 went to play with Samantha p.m. Sidney got $2.70 worth of groceries off Florence a.m. Sidney went to attend holiness meeting with eve.
Saturday October 7th 1916
Fair. Memphis is 10 years old. Sidney went to Fulton a.m., got home at 3 p.m. Got a letter from Aunt Adaline, 1 from Mina, and card from Philys R. and several other letters. Maud went with Vera and been to Florence's twice. Loren Wood came hunting, told me we could have some cabbage. Memphis went over and got 4 heads. Cassy and Lillian with her. Mora gone to spend the night with Vera.
Thursday October 5th 1916
*School closed indefinitely*. Fair, warm day. I washed again. Sidney got home at noon. Having spent the night at Little's. The little girl at Howdral's died and was buried at night of infantile paralysis or diphtheria.

Wednesday October 4th 1916
Fair, hot day. I washed. Sidney went over north. Maud went to Percival's. Got graham, a pencil tablet and 2 sticks of candy. p.m. 4 girls went to Bernice's to play. Samantha and James came down after them to go.
Tuesday September 19th 1916.
Continues very cool. Cassy is better, sent letter to Sidney. I picked [unknown, paper ripped].
**The family moves and the journals do not pick up again until early October, the sheets may have been lost.
Monday September 18th 1916
Rainy night last night. Clearing in morning. Fred came at 1 p.m. after dinner, loaded up and started for Volney at 6 p.m. Sidney, Maud and Memphis went with him. Cold Night. Bell and Mrs. Russel came p.m. Cassy sick.
Saturday September 16th 1916
Cold. Sidney worked for H. Russel, cut corn at Elmer Cotett's. Elmer gave him a mess of sweet corn. I have packed nearly all the dishes. Emily House called this eve.
Friday September 15th 1916
Rainy. Sidney went to Russel's to work but did not work on account of the rain. Other man went to Square with Frank Roguiski.
Thursday September 14th 1916
Very close, muggy day. Rain hard at night. Sidney and Mora husked corn. Other girls picked off beans. Martin bought his cow tonight, looks like a good one. Mr. Wilson came, I got graham, oats and sugar.
Wednesday September 13th 1916
Fair, cool. Sidney went to Hastings, got home at 8 p.m. Mora and the woman here went to Elmer Cotett's to look at a cow they think to buy p.m. I rec'd a card from Daisy.
Monday September 11th 1916
Fair, cool, lovely day. Phillys called this morning a minute with his boy. Sidney went to [unknown, tear in paper]. Rec'd a letter from Hannah.
Saturday September 9th 1916
Cool, fair. Sidney and Martin finished digging the potatoes, all except the last early ones, they are too green. We pulled the rest of beans, all the last ones are green and a mass of blossoms and buds. Sidney and the other man Martin have gone to Gayville, got home at 10 p.m.
Thursday September 7th 1916
Hot, nice showers at evening. Sidney went to West Monroe a.m., dug a few potato's p.m. The Polish man dug a few also a.m. Paul and I have not felt very well today. Sidney wrote to Hannah.
Wednesday September 6th 1916
Awfully hot, sultry day. Sidney cut corn. The agent brought the people, Man and woman, 3 children. They had quite a lot of groceries. a.m. and p.m. Mr. Roguiski went with him to Parish to get their things, dishes mostly smashed.
Tuesday September 5th 1916
I dug potatoes. Sidney cut corn. Mr. Webb came with the real estate agent and people that bought the place.
Monday Sept 4th 1916
Warm. Sidney started cutting corn. I dug some potatoes. Warren Smith's stepson buried p.m.
Sunday September 3rd 1916
Beautiful all day. Charles and Daisy Green and 3 children, Fred and Hannah Bartlet and Guy came all 10 a.m in auto. Went at 3 p.m. Took Sidney to Gayville to get some flour and sugar. Mr. Roguiski came and with his phonograph. Had nice time.
Saturday September 2nd 1916
Cool. we have been busy straightening up and cleaning. Mr. Sypher called at 11:30 a.m. Eva sent a dress and jacket by him to Mora. Bell and the 2 miss Allen's called also, eve. Sidney got home at 11 p.m. Walked and carried scroll and groceries from Hastings, came on car.
