Friday July 21st 1916

 Hot dry, clouded up awhile but no rain. Sidney rode with Edd Cotett's girl a.m. went to Besonson's and got flour, sugar and BK powder. Mrs. Besonson gave him 5 sticks of candy. Mrs. Russel and girls came eve. also Bell. I rec'd a letter from Susie.

Monday June 3rd 1916

 Cloudy, a mist some. Joe Sloson and children came a.m. for Mora, it seems lonesome without her. Sidney hoed but it was so very wet, he quite and built fence. I washed nearly all day. Some of our things and more for Susie. Sidney went to Bisbo's eve, to see about berry picking.

Friday June 30th 1916

 I got up 5:45, drew off milk, fed pig calves and chickens before the rest were up except Pa. Picked berries, all of us got 2 crates and Cassy and I picked 20 qts over to bring home. James came and brought us home. Marian and Myrtle came, Susie traded a goose and a guinea hen for 2 hens. She gave me some butter an a pail of milk to bring home. When we got to Bisbo's our girls rode home having just finished, they got tickets cashed, Sidney, Maude and Memphis went home with James.

Thursday June 29th 1916

 Lovely quite cool day. I picked 48 qts of berries and made a dress for Paul, did some sewing for Susie.

Wednesday June 28th 1916

Fair, hot day. Ed Cottet's girl brought a note from Bisbo's for some of the girls to go and pick berries. Mora, Maud and Memphis went. Sidney and I hoe'd some corn. Susie came for me to go home with her. I went and took the 3 little ones. Sidney rode down as far as Bisbo's to help them pick berries p.m. When we got on the Pinnacle, M. Silverman was there. He ate dinner there. They traded about $10.00 with him. James bought me a nice gingham dress for $1.50. Susie gave me cloth enough for Paul. 2 dresses, steele grey percale.

Monday May 29th 1916

Hot. Sidney went to N. Constantia and then to Constantia. Got oats, meal, 1# tea and a can of milk. He was awfully tired when he reached home. Maud, Memphis and Cassy went to school. Mora went to Elmer's about 4: 30 p.m.  James, Susie and the baby came at 5 p.m., had been to Mallory, Little France and then here. I dug 12 rows of holes to plant corn.

Wednesday May 24th 1916

Fair. Sidney worked shingling at Fielding's for H. Munger. Got home at 4 p.m.  Maud and Memphis went to school, rode home with Claud Bisbo. Bell Allen spent p.m. here. James and Susie drove up this eve. brought sour milk and a picture and some butter in a pint can.

Sunday May 7th, 1916

Beautiful warm day. Mora came home from Elmer's, a.m. Sidney preached at the school house at 11, Dutch Hill at 2 p.m., and at Gayville, eve. Maud went to S.S, rode home with uncle Billy. Sidney did too, James, Susie and the baby came up, eve., brought a mess of carp and a lot of fish egg's, some cream and sour milk. Milk got all spilt out but, just a little. Brought some *compounded in a pint can for fear I did not have any to fry the fish. Sidney got home from Gayville at 10 p.m.,  collection 80 cents.

Tuesday April 25, 1916

Quite a mist all day. Children went to school. I sent a card to Sidney at Hannibal. Rec'd some parsnip and cucumber seed from Susie. Got 2 duck eggs, one was awfully large and soft shelled. Mora's throat is swelled and sour.

Monday April 24, 1916

Cloudy. Rainy at night. Children at school. Sidney went to Fulton 8 a.m. Susie, Mable, Myrtle and the baby came at 10 a.m. and started for home at 3:15 .m. they brought a loaf of bread and 2 lemon pies. I gave her some seed and let her take Cassy's beads for the baby. I found one ducks egg.

Wednesday March 29, 1916

Froze up last night but snow went fast today. Sap runs good. Sidney went down on the Pinnacle, got a pail of buckwheat flour and Susie sent 2 dresses to Mora by him. I washed 3 loads so far this week and have got another washing for tomorrow. Paul was quite sick last night. Has not felt well today, better tonight. Northern light shown plainly tonight.

Tuesday August 24, 1915

Beautiful bright day. Arose early. Sidney started for Phoenix 6 a.m., took 9 eggs (21c/doz)  to Davy's and sent up some compound by Fergason. Memphis went and got it at Bisbo's corner this morning. Mora went to Fisher's. Nell gave her a small Chinese primrose and a bucket wheat begonia. Susie, Marguerite and Marian eat dinner, brought us some cucumbers and took the milk can and babys coat. Bell came, brought some sweet milk, also sent buttermilk.

Friday July 9, 1915

Nice cool day. Rec'd card from Sidney. Elder Sypher came over a few minutes. James and Peter came, brought the things I order'd off Susie. Two dogs were after our hens and rabbits. 4o'clock this morning I got up and drove them off. Mora hoe's 4 1/2 rows today. I set the rest of the bean poles and hilled a row of sweet corn. Maud got a little buttermilk off Mamie Russel. Liza Moon was getting signers to try and keep the mail route. I signed for Sidney.

Saturday June 5, 1915

Hot. Sidney went to Jim Potter's twice and carried 1 bu. potatoes each time. He planted some on the {unable to read} place, and went to Gayville eve. I hoe'd some in the garden this morning. Susie, Mable, Marian and Myrtle came a.m. eat dinner, bought a lot of sour milk, buttermilk and some beans. Also peppermint herb. Mora has a bad bronchial cough and acts sick.

Monday May 31, 1915

Warm lovely day. Sidney went to Gayville before breakfast, got groceries, got there an hour before anyone was up, had to wait, got home at 7:30 a.m. P.m. he planted potatoes across the way some over 3 bu. seed. James, Mossaline and Susie came eat supper here.

Sunday May 2, 1915

Very cold. Sidney and Maud went to church. Elder Bowman preached. Memphis and Cassie picked about 1 qt. wintergreen berries. Mora got a mess of cowslips. Mrs. Fisher sent a pail of sauerkraut, gave children a few apples. Susie, Marguerette and Marian came p.m.

Monday February 15, 1915

Rained all last night, quite pleasant today altho very mussy underfoot. Sidney went to Weatherup's and got some onions, to mill and got feed, to store and also to Stricklands for 1/2 bu. potatoes. Mora and Maud came home to dinner got their feet wet so did not go to school p.m. James and Susie came over, staid to dinner, said little Mary had a baby boy. Charlie the horse had broken his neck, committed suicide. We are feeling a little better, but quite weak yet. James gave me some meal and Mora got some buttermilk off Mrs. Mallory and we had a lovely johnnie cake for supper.

Saturday December 12, 1914

Quite pleasant, not very cold. Susie and Marguerite came p.m. I let them have a brown leghorn rooster. Earl and Hazel Boots here all p.m. Sidney came home on the 7 p.m. brought 25lbs. macaroni from Syracuse factory, also a pretty good pair gunmetal shoes he got at bargain .15c.

Saturday November 14, 1914

Fair. Mora and Hazel Lynch went to get something on their soap order, had poor luck. Hazel ate dinner here. Rec'd a letter from Sidney p.m. should have got it yesterday. He came on the 7 p.m brought back cabbage and some macaroni. James and Susie came p.m. and brought us some cabbage. Susie is looking very bad. Maud went to mill and got some corn.

Thursday November 5, 1914

Cloudy but no rain until evening. James came a.m. on his way home from Little France, said he had buried a *little baby, Susie got hurt and is having rather a hard time. Convention all day at M.E. church meeting evening well attended.


*Editors note: I am not sure if this baby is James and Susie's or if he helped bury someones baby. My guess that it is indeed their baby but I have not come across any documents to confirm this as of yet.
