Friday December 18, 1914
Pleasant sunshiny day, but did not thaw any. Mora and Maud went to school and carried their dinner, but just as the children and I were about to sit down to our dinner, Mora came in. Rather walk home in the cold than eat at school. Rec'd a card from Adelle, her and Lew and a girlfriend photo card. Mailed a card to Lillian Smith.
Tuesday December 15, 1914
Cold, high wind, bitter cold night. Mora and Maud went to school, rode from P.O. to school with P. Maruney and Lewis. Rec'd card from Mina. We had a rabbit for supper.
Saturday November 21, 1914
Sleigh bells are jingling today. Eddie Burt is moving out of Geo. Courbat's house. Maud went to mill twice and Mora went to store and to mill after to help Maud with her feed. Sidney came home on the 7 p.m. as far as the Square. He brought 5# crackers, a large coconut and some buns, and he and Mora went to Lewis's and bought a 15# hog's for 75c. He also bought a nice tablet for the children for school.
Thursday September 17, 1914
A very nice day. Mora, Maud and Memphis were vaccinated at school by Dr. Conterman. Lewis Morey came. No letter from Sidney as yet.
Sunday August 30, 1914
Warm and muggy again this morning. Lewis and Adell started to drive back to Randallsville at 10:30 a.m. they are both looking fine. She brought me a little dress of Ione's for Lillian also a waist that was Mates.
Saturday August 29, 1914
Rained hard all night continuing all day. Adell and Lewis came on the p.m. milk train. James went to meet them and all got soaked about through.
Tuesday May 26, 1914
Warm muggy day with thunder and lightening eight thirty p.m. Sidney started for Hastings 5 a.m. to get the early train to Pulaski. A lady called p.m. selling dust cloths, polishing extracts and various other articles, said she lived 5 miles beyond Parish. Rogers also called, Pal collector from Mexico. Susie and Marguerette came p.m. brought over a white rabbit. I gave her Cassie's hen for it, she took James drum home for John Ingerson to practice on. She had a boiler to have soldered. She drove Lewis's horse over said she had a colt a week old, She had two dogs with her, said someone poisoned the hound, they saved it with an enietie. Maud went to the mill for feed, borrowed Carl Boots wagon to draw it home in, also went to store for graham flour and the mail. Mora went to Weatherups for sweet milk.
Monday May 18, 1914
Another nice day. Sidney went to Weatherups a.m. borrowed 10 dollars to send his first order for scrolls, he also changed a setting of brown loghorn eggs with William Strickland and went to the station for an ex. order, to mill for feed and to Lewis's and got some groceries. This evening he went up to Burts carried some squash and pumpkin seed to old Mrs. Starr and Claud came back with him and brought a little female rabbit to change for our Adam. Mora caught another sucker this evening. Sidney sent a bundle of garden seed to Adelle by p.p. for me cost 4 cts. I washed today and will try and finish tomorrow.
Tuesday April 7, 1914
Pleasant until 5:30 p.m. commenced to sprinkle at 6, rain hard looks like an all night affair. Mora and Maud went to school came home to dinner. Memphis wanted to go but her eyes looked bad and ached. Decided to keep her home it may be pink eye. Mora went to the P.O. after coming home from school and got cabbages for 5c and said they only had 5 more left as she wanted to go and get the rest. Lewis told her she could have them for 2c each . I let her go and she bought all for 9c, cute little very hard heads about a lb. each, however they are cabbage and that is all there is to it. Cassie went up to Gehr's and got a pkg. of Snowboy when the children went back to school, when she came home she was hold of Mrs. Rudeau's hand.
Saturday March 28, 1914
They shoveled and plowed the roads again today and chopped off the ridge with axes, so the funeral procession could get through, Mr. Rushie's funeral at 1 p.m. at the church. I think he will be buried at Sand Hill, roads were so bad the undertaker could not get through with a hearse so took the remains in a wagon. Rec'd a card from Mina saying Adell was married to L. Mathews.
Monday March 23, 1914
Cloudy and sunshine by turns, snowed a little, rather warm thawy. Commenced to freeze a little about 4 p.m. Sidney went to the mill for corn and to Lewis's and got groceries, carried wash water from the pond. We ate dinner about 11 and at 12pm he started for Volney. Mora and Maud went to school. Mora went home with Avis after school, when she go home eat supper and went up with Maud to Mary's and drew home 1/2 bu. potatoes on their little boys sled. Memphis went up to the stores twice today.
Friday March 13, 1914
Thawed quite a lot today hope the snow will soon be gone. Sidney went toward Hastings Center this a.m. James and Susie and their two babies came p.m. James had 2 rabbits for Gene Porter 75c pr. also Alva Shafer's bulldog to sell to Lewis Morey. Susie said Arthur and Mable Morey's baby Nellie May died about 2 weeks ago. Lillian is some better this p.m. but Cassie was taken very sick before noon and I have my hands full doctoring them all, hope they will be well soon, it is awful so much sickness. Nearly all the time one or more down.

The snow is all slushy, looks like a breakup. Mora went to the mill and got 10# corn and worked here about all was done. Sidney went up to Lewis Morey's, the first he has been away this week. Gene came this evening and borrowed our black eared rabbit.
Saturday Feb. 28, 1914
A real nice pleasant day. Sidney came home about 4pm did fairly well on his trip, came from Upsons courners staid over night with Elder Bowman in Palermo, went up to Lewis's and got some groceries in evening. Henry Porter, Clarence and Eugene and Mrs. Porter's brother Andrew Bargy came to see Sidney and spent the evening. Hazel Lynch came p.m to have Mora go to Weatherup's with her, Mora went and got a pail of very nice buttermilk. Sidney rec'd a letter from Joe Little.
Saturday Feb. 21, 1914
Another fine day, thawed so there was a bare spot by the door, it is very cold however tonight the wind blows quite hard, it whistles and sounds terrible lonely to me. Memphis, Cassy and Lillian are all in slumberland, while Sidney, Mora and Maud are all at church. Mora went to deliver some more of her soap order and she road a ways with Henry Rudeau, he was taking Hiram West over to W. Monroe also his wife and three children. She stopped to Mrs. Fred Faustmans with her lemon ex. and tartan tar soap and Mrs. F paid her all but three cents, could not make right change. Mora told her that was near enough it was 30c she rec'd 27c, Mrs. F gave her some apples. Then she went over to Chas. Piquet's and Kate paid her 25c for her camp horated oil and paid her also for Minnie Gearsbeck's washing powder which was 10c, said she would take it up to her and save Mora a little walk. Maud carried Louise's boraxine up to her and their dog followed her home and we could not send him back untill Johnnie came along and he went with him all right. Johnnie Vinney found Cassy's rubber when he came home form F. Buttons's dance this morning. Sidney went to the mill and got some corn and brought home some groceries. Maud also went up and got a pkg. of O.G. Oats and Lewis brought a sack of golden glow flour and a sack of meal this evening. Mora and I wrote a receipt for indian bread for Lydia Boots and Memphis carried it up to her.
Saturday Feb. 14, 1914
It snow'd last night and has snow'd nearly all day clearing at nightfall, a little colder again wind in the north tonight. There is more snow on the ground now than at any timie before this winter. Lewis Morey told Sidney that Pa was sick and James had a sore throat, he also said James wanted to trade a goose with us for ducks. Sidney sent Mrs. Burts boraxine to her by Claude.
